It’s a new year and as we begin 2023, January is often a month where I set goals in my home and like to spend the time organizing and decluttering. Here are 4 amazing benefits of organizing your home. If you are anything like me, sometimes I need that extra boost of motivation to get going at organizing my home. I’m hoping today to encourage you by sharing with you, that there are actually some real benefits to doing it. Benefits that you and your family will definitely enjoy. I’m not going to get into studies but organizing can have a real positive impact on our daily life.
There are many, many organizing books and videos available out there that are very detailed and great at explaining the whole organization process. I have read and watched many, but sometimes just simply realizing the benefits to doing it, is enough to get me moving. I will share some great resources at the end of this post.
4 Amazing Benefits of Organizing Your Home
- Daily routines are easier
- Decreased stress levels
- Valuable Time
- Enjoy our Surroundings
Daily Routines are Easier
Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to clean the house when its already organized? It takes so much less time when things have a neatly organized spot to put them.
Even the basic daily tidying up becomes so much easier because you can grab an item lying around and then know exactly where to put it away.
Not very long ago I organized my stationary/office supply junk drawer. It was such and mess and stuff was just getting thrown in there. I organized spots for pencils, pens, scissors and tape with dividers and labels. Next I labeled each spot with what item was supposed to belong there. Not only does the drawer look neatly organized now, it makes me very happy to open and easily find what I need or put something away.
Having areas of you home organized will definitely help make daily routine easier. It’s a yearly goal to keep organizing the rooms or spots in my home that need this kind of attention.
Decreased Stress Levels
Anybody else with me when I say, a messy disorganized house makes you feel stressed? We all face stressful situations daily and a disorganized home should not be one of those.
Too much stuff and too much clutter can be a major contributor to higher stress levels which causes poor physical health. I certainly could use less stress in my life.
My goal is to make our home feel warm, cozy and welcoming so this is definitely a benefit of keeping a home organized. If having an organized home helps me to keep my stress levels down and even get a better night’s sleep, that’s for sure a win for many of us.
For example which one of us doesn’t love the fresh feel of clean sheets at the end of the day when we crawl into bed. It makes me feels like I’m going to have a better sleep!
When a room is neat and organized, there is a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment at seeing your favourite things around, instead of messy surroundings.
Valuable Time
Time is very valuable for me as a busy Mom and blogger and I’m sure it is for you too. Time management is really for all of us! The never-ending to-do list is a real thing.
Another amazing benefit to keeping an organized house is that is takes less time to clean. I know some people enjoy cleaning but I am not one of them. A great way to motivate me to organize some messy area is knowing it will take a lot less time to clean and make my daily routines easier. More time to focus on the important things in life.
An example of this is cleaning out my daughter’s messy bedroom closet. I organized her clothes by going through them and keeping only what fits and then hanging them up in her closet by sections of where she would wear them and seasons. For example, summer dresses, winter dresses or school dresses. This definitely saves us time in the morning, when picking out what to wear for the day. It also helps to make putting away clean laundry much easier too.
Hopefully better organization and getting rid of the excess clutter will help you regain valuable time in your schedule.
Enjoy Our Surroundings
Being able to enjoy our surrounding within our homes is a huge benefit to organizing. A cluttered space or a messy area of my home, leaves me feeling frustrated and unable to relax or work in my house. On the other hand, a neat space can give you peace of mind and a sense of control.
If you work from home maybe you can relate. It’s very hard to get productive things done when the areas you are working in are cluttered and messy. I have a much better ability to work when I can easily tidy my work space before I begin.
Another example of enjoying our surroundings is relaxing after a hard day of work. It feels so much better to sit down and relax in a room that is neat, even if you have to quickly tidy it up first.
A Few Extra Organized Home Tips
You can hire a professional organizer but I challenge you to slowly or quickly, (if you have a big chunk of extra time) go through your home and organize the areas that need it.
Make an organizing schedule or find a good one to follow in some of the book recommendations listed below.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you look at the whole house but I encourage you to do a little bit at a time. Pick one drawer, closet or one room. Once that place is organized, you will hopefully be inspired to keep on going.

I used to be the most organized person in the world! Now working from home with the kiddos at home… it has become a total disaster and I can tell that it actually makes me cranky. I’d love to hear any tips about organizing 1) so the family actually follows suit and 2) getting the toddlers involved :):)
