Come along with me as I share how to create a pretty tablescape for spring. A beautiful tablescape will make your home feel warm and welcoming. Whether you are setting the table for guests or your own family, it can be simple, pretty and enjoyable.
I am excited to show you how to easily create a pretty table setting or tablescape for spring. This part of home decor is a wonderful touch to your dining room and helps create a nice atmosphere while gathering together over a delicious meal. This can be as simple or fancy as you want it to be. Guests or your own immediate family can all enjoy a tablescape.
What Is A Tablescape?
A tablescape is an attractive and sometimes themed arrangement of decor items and tableware on a table. It’s kind of like adding home decor items to a table setting.
When Do You Use A Tablescape?
Holidays, seasons and special occasions are all times when you could use a tablescape. Some popular holidays where you often decorate are Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving. The seasons of spring, summer, fall or winter also make pretty tablescapes. Special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, bridal showers, or baby showers are all great table decor ideas as well.
Where Do I Create A Tablescape?
The dining room table is the first thing we may think of, but there are other areas of our home space that we can use to make a tablescape too. A kitchen table, dining room buffet, kitchen island or even a folding table are all other options.
Why Create A Tablescape?
I love to decorate!! My next reason would be that tablescapes create a nice atmosphere in your dining room which makes your guests, family or friends feel welcome and at home. It is a wonderful experience to gather around a table full of people we care about and enjoy delicious food together, while making fond memories.
How To Create A Pretty Spring Tablescape?
- Plan the colours or theme
- Gather all of your supplies.
- Plan your base- a runner, tablecloth or placemats
- Set up the centrepiece or decor
- Arrange your place settings
- Extra touches
First of all, planning a pretty spring tablescape does not need to be complicated or expensive. This applies to any occasion or theme you may want to use. We usually already have the basics of plates, cutlery and glasses. You can easily add in home decor items from around your house. It’s fairly easy to find or make a base layer for the table.
The easiest way to start to gather and collect items for your tablescape, is to plan the colours and theme first. Today I’m using a spring theme with soft pink and blue colours. I am going to add florals in a neutral white colour and keep the spring theme alive with the adorable bunny plates. This same spring theme could also be used for Easter.
Plan Your Base
Your base layer is the first thing to lay on the table. This can be a tablecloth, runner or placemats. Any combination of these can also be used together. You can buy them from a store or these items can be made from fabric on hand, curtains or throw blankets. My favourite tip is to use a pretty floral tea towel as a table runner. A tea towel can also be used as placemats and they are very inexpensive.
Centrepiece Decor
This is the fun part, where you get to use your imagination and decorate the centre the table or create a pretty centrepiece. This helps to set the theme and show off the colours you chosen. When creating this arrangement, there are unlimited decor ideas to use. Here are a few ideas. Candles, candleholders, flowers, greenery, bowls, wooden boards, cloches, lanterns and ornaments. Try to remember to use objects that aren’t too tall to make sure everyone can see across the table. Take some time to play around with the decor and arrange it in a way that makes a wonderful arrangement in the middle of the table.
Arranging the Place Settings
Place settings include the chargers, plates, bowls, cutlery and glasses that are arranged at each spot around the table. A charger plate is a large decorative plate which is laid down first. Next add the dinner plate which is set on top of the charger. A salad plate or soup bowl are optional dinnerware pieces that would be placed on top of the dinner plate. While setting the plates, it’s a great time to decide where to place the napkins.
Napkins can be fabric or paper. They add a very pretty element to the place setting. There are many fun ways to place or fold napkins…. Just google napkin folding and you’ll see. I folded my pink linen napkin into a square and placed it on a angle between the charger and dinner plate. This way the pink ruffle on the napkin peaks out on the side.
Cutlery for the place setting includes the fork, knife and spoon which are used to eat the meal. Silver, gold and rose gold are very popular cutlery colours that look very elegant beside a place setting. Place the fork on the left of the charger plate and the knife on the right side. When a spoon is used, place it beside the knife on the right.
Many different styles of glassware can be used on a tablescape. For today I chose pretty crystal glasses and they are placed on the top right side of the charger.
Extra Touches
Extra touches are the little finishing decorations that are optional but can add a pretty touch to a tablescape. Here are a few ideas. Place cards at each setting are cute when displayed with the name of the guest. Another idea is napkin rings. They are a fun way to add to the place setting and a great way to display a pretty napkin. Another extra touch, is a small gift or chocolate by each place setting. Of course you can come up with your own extra touch too.
Create Your Own Pretty Tablescape- Conclusion
If you are wandering how or where you serve food on the table, remember you can always serve the food buffet style, arrange the food around the centrepiece on the table or remove a few decor items as the food is being placed on the table.
