Many of my favourite decor pieces in my home are thrifted, and I love them. Whether it’s an old vintage chair or an antique basket, these home decor items help add the coziness and warmth to a space that I really want to feel. Finding and buying thrifted decor items offers a unique and budget friendly way to decorate a home.
Today I want to talk about 7 of my top favourite thrifted home decor items. These items include furniture, dishes, frames, books, linens, antiques and baskets. All of these make awesome pieces when added into a home and can be found at many thrifting places like thrift shops, yard sales, garage sales, online sites or moving sales. Of course there are many, many more items that make great thrifted home decor. While I couldn’t possibly talk about them all, it’s a lot of fun to go shopping and see what you can find.
Furniture
From solid wood dressers to vintage chairs or end tables, the possibilities for finding thrifted furniture are endless…. Look for study, solid pieces and do the smell test to see if they have any lingering odours on them. Some pieces may just need a good clean and they’ll be ready to put into your home. Other pieces, like the adorable vintage dresser I just bought, needs a fresh coat of white paint and then it’ll be perfect for in my daughter’s room. If you have the time to give the furniture a little love, there are a lot of options to purchase. Reupholstering is another great way to update a cute chair or stool.
Dishes or Glassware
Old vintage dishes or glassware are a great way to add some charm and a nice vintage look to your rooms. White ironstone dinnerware is very popular displayed on shelves, china cabinets, or even hanging on the wall. Other collectibles are porcelain, china and milk glass to name a few. There are many different pretty patterns, styles and colours. Mixing and matching pieces can look cute too. Dishes of course can also have a functional use too.
Frames
Frames are a great find while out thrifting. Whether it’s picture frames or framed art, these can be used as decor anywhere throughout a home. Think about spots on the wall, a table or dresser with a small standing frame or a gallery wall. All of these are places where pictures or artwork can be displayed. A framed mirror is another good find. Keep an eye out for colours or themes that would go well with your home decor. Frames are easy to paint and a new colour can make your frame look perfect in your home. You may also wish to change out the art in a frame.
Old Books
Old vintage books look so good displayed on a coffee table or styled with home decor on a shelf. Thrifting is a great place to find these for a reasonable price. I like to look for pretty coloured binding and covers that would match my decor. Look for pretty fonts and lettering too. A bonus is also if you enjoy reading your new book too!
Linens
Linens are another wonderful item to look for while out thrifting. Think about curtains, doilies, table runners, throws, sheets or even throw pillows. Vintage handmade quilts and embroidered linens are so beautiful to display. All of these can be washed, freshened up and used different places throughout your home. Fabric is another great find that you can use to sew or recover home decor pieces. I have turned white sheets into curtains very easily with a curtain and rod clip rings.
Antiques
Any of these top thrifting items could be vintage or antique but I wanted it include antiques in its own separate category. Thrifting is an excellent way to to find and purchase antiques to use as home decor. You just never know what you may find. I love to mix in a few vintage or antique pieces to my home decor. Recently I found a couple old antique blue glass canning jars and it’s fun to have them displayed in my kitchen.
Baskets and Containers
Beautiful baskets, crocks or any type of container is another fun thrifting find. They can be used so many places in and outside of your home. As the warmer weather moves us outside, think about planter containers or front porch porch displays. Baskets are a pretty way to store things in and perfect for home organization.
