As we move outdoors to enjoy the beautiful spring sunshine, here are some unique outdoor planter ideas for your flowers.

I hope that all of you are enjoying this wonderful spring season and are able to start being outdoors more to soak up the warmth of the sunshine. After a long cold winter, I am so excited to work on making our home welcoming and cozy on the outside. Whether this means decorating a front porch, planting flowers or a garden or setting up your deck, it gives us all new motivation to make these areas extra special. Today I would to share with you some unique outdoor planter ideas for your flowers.

Whether you plant huge flower gardens or several containers on your deck, flowers add such a beautiful charm to our outdoor spaces. I admit I’m fairly low key with my flowers but I really like to have several containers sprinkled throughout our yard, front porch and deck.
Sometimes It’s just simply finding adorable planters or containers to plant the flowers in and then setting them in the right spot. These spots could be an established flower garden, a front step, under a pretty tree or hanging above a deck.

Unique Outdoor Planter Ideas For Flowers
There are so many unique planter ideas for flowers. I could list many but decided to keep it short and talk about a few of my favourites that look great anywhere in a yard displayed with flowers.
- Galvanized metal tubs
- Wooden barrels
- Ceramic pots
- Urns
- Hanging Planters
- Railing or window boxes

Galvanized Metal Tub
Old fashioned and full of vintage charm, an old metal tub is so fun to use for planting flowers. Give it proper drainage holes in the bottom, fill with dirt and plant a combination of your favourite coloured flowers. They can be displayed anywhere, but this one looks especially adorable displayed on top of the wood stump.

Wooden Barrel Planter
Wooden barrel planters look so awesome filled with flowers and displayed around your yard. They are large wooden barrels in various wood stains and often look old and weathered. They can be on the larger size, so these planters look great along a driveway or placed in various spots around your yard.

Ceramic Pots for Flowers
Ceramic flower pots come in all sizes, shapes and patterns. They are usually glazed and this helps them stand up to being outdoors. Since they come in such a huge variety, you can easily find pots to match your outdoor decor, flower colour scheme or your house siding and trim colours. If the pots are going to be displayed in your yard or garden then it may be fun to pick your own colour and design and it doesn’t have to match.

Urns
Urns are generally taller and a more ornate planter. They offer lots of charm and look gorgeous with flowers planted in them. Urns can be made from resin, plastic or concrete materials, therefore the prices can really vary. They look so nice displayed on either side of a front door or the front steps of your home. Urn planters can give that old world, vintage look with their fancier edges and molds that are found on them.

Outdoor Hanging Planters
Hanging outdoor planters filled with flowers look so pretty. They can be hung over your deck, from your house overhang or even from a tree in the yard. Hanging planters can be macrame, plastic or wire baskets with hangers attached. My favourite this year was to plant some boston ferns and hang them in macrame plant holders from hooks above my deck. (Pictures of that to come with my back deck makeover.) You can purchase decorative, metal wall mounted plant hook to use for hanging plants like this one. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/peak-products-11-inch-charm-plant-bracket-in-black/1000466904?rrec=true. Tall free standing metal rods with hooks on the end can also be used anywhere in your yard to hang plants.

Railing or Window Boxes
Another great spot to display outdoor flowers is on the railings of a deck or in window boxes. There are many neat types of railing boxes that are designed to attach onto your deck railing. Window boxes displayed under a window also look so pretty. Filled with pretty blooms, they definitely add colour and warmth to the outdoor space. Another idea would be to display a railing box on a fence in your yard like this picture below.

Happy Flower Planting
I hope that I have helped inspire your outdoor planting with some unique outdoor planter ideas for flowers. Adding some pretty containers filled with beautiful blooms to your outdoor spaces can add so much warmth, colour and charm to your home.

These planters can be purchased new or keep a look out for them while shopping at yard sales. If you love to DIY you could also try making a wooden planter or even giving an old container a makeover with paint and texture.
Happy Planting! Have a wonderful week!

I love the idea of flower boxes along a fence. I would never have thought of that, but it looks beautiful! Great ideas for different containers to use… this is the inspiration I needed to get started on my patio flowers. Thanks!
I’m so looking forward to planting our garden and pots soon and these ideas are all so beautiful! I love the vintage charm and character they all have!
I love this list! I tend to love more natural textures, but that urn at the end is definitely doing something for me… I love the element of fancy!
Beautiful post! I’m currently on the hunt for a couple of urns to flank our front door!
Love all these great ideas for planters!
I’m just getting into flower gardening and love these ideas!
Love all these ideas! 🙂
Love the idea of hanging flowers along a fence as well as using an old metal tub. Such inexpensive and fun ideas! Makes me want to turn an old crate I have into a flower box for our yard.
